Hockey Players from Catholic Memorial High School featured on ESPN

Being featured in an ESPN story is certainly remarkable, but what’s even more inspiring is not just the athletic excellence displayed on the ice but the solemn presence and deep compassion shown by the young men of CM as they accompany veterans to their final resting place.

As we paused yesterday to observe Memorial Day, their quiet witness speaks volumes. They remind us that remembrance is not confined to a single day, nor should it ever be a passive act. It is a sacred duty, especially in a nation that owes so much to those who served with courage and honor.

Too often, brave men and women who defended our freedoms die alone, with no one to walk with them to their final rest. The young men of CM step into that breach, not out of obligation, but out of love for neighbor and country. Their presence is a profound act of patriotism and faith.

They remind us that the true measure of greatness lies not in accolades, but in recognizing the face of Christ in those we meet along life’s journey.

As Blessed Edmund Rice once said, “Have courage; the good seed will grow up in the children’s hearts later on.” That seed is clearly alive and flourishing, bearing fruit in acts of mercy, honor, and deeply human solidarity.
