We are proud to announce that James Higdon ’10 has been recognized by the Catholic Foundation of Michigan as a recipient of the Amazing Catholic Educator Award, an honor presented to outstanding teachers within the Archdiocese of Detroit.
The Amazing Catholic Educator Award celebrates teachers, specialists, and administrators across the Archdiocese of Detroit who are building school communities that are proudly Catholic, academically excellent, accessible to all, and sustainable for the future. This prestigious recognition highlights ten educators who exemplify what it means to unleash the Gospel in their schools each day.
“James Higdon is an Engineering and Math teacher at Brother Rice High School, where he has served for 10 years shaping both the academic and spiritual formation of his students. James has transformed the Engineering curriculum by developing hands-on, project-based coursework that challenges students to design, innovate, and solve complex real-world problems. Notably, he is one of only three teachers in Michigan selected to pilot Purdue University’s SCALE12 Microelectronics Engineering curriculum, and he authored a standout unit plan, “Rolling the Dice,” where students create an electronic dice simulator and fabricate it from scratch. He is described as “a true disciple of Christ,” whose faith is evident not only in what he teaches, but in how he mentors and models servant leadership. Through high expectations, disciplined structure, and unwavering encouragement, James forms students who understand that excellence is not just about achievement it is about character rooted in Christ.”
We congratulate James on this well-deserved honor and celebrate his commitment to faith-filled leadership and educational excellence!
