On the second part of this series, the author John B. Murphy reflects on the sixth decade of the life of Brother Edmund Ignatius Rice, founder of the Congregation of Christian Brothers and the Presentation Brothers. Here, we will explore Edmund Rice notes written between 1822 and 1832.

June 1, 1822:
I have lived 60 years as of today and now I enter my 61st.
I’m not the man I once was in Callan, but I’m not yet the person that God is calling me to be.
These are desperate times.
We live in a broken world, but with each movement of the Spirit I sense a glimmer of hope.
None more than in the classrooms where my Brothers are making Christ known in and through all that they do.
