With COP26 (The U.N. Conference on Climate Change) quickly approaching (November 1-12), members of the Edmund Rice Network have been working diligently to prepare for this immensely important meeting on promoting climate action. On October 5 and October 8, Edmund Rice schools from across the globe met on Zoom to craft a joint statement on the environment and climate action.

Students from Edmund Rice Schools in England, the USA, India, Bolivia and Uruguay met two times on Zoom to discuss concerns in their country related to climate action and voiced their environmental demands to address these issues.

Working cooperatively via Zoom, students consulted with staff members from their schools, and through the leadership of with Ann Nichols, Network Facilitator of Edmund Rice England, crafted a joint official statement: Commitment to Combatting Climate Change and Ensuring a Sustainable, Compelling Future for All. The joint statement addresses environmental concerns and proposed commitments in each country represented, gaps and challenges in addressing these issues and demands for necessary changes.

This statement will be read and presented at COY16, the U.N. Climate Change Conference of Youth connected to COP26.
