Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice Recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. (September 24, 2020) Today, the U.S. Department of Education recognized Brother Rice High School as a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School for its academic excellence– one of just 367 awarded nationally and one of just 50 private schools recognized from across the country. The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content. The 2020 National Blue Ribbon Schools Awards Ceremony will be held virtually Nov. 12 and 13.

Brother Rice Principal Ed Okuniewski said, “We are blessed to have a rigorous curriculum and a history of high academic success at Brother Rice, but it is our people who make the difference and deserve credit for this honor. Our success begins with our teachers, is due to the hard work of our students, and would not be possible without the support of our parents. This is a prideful moment for our entire community.”

The Band of Brothers peer leadership program is the centerpiece of a robust cocurricular offering bolstering self-confidence, forging leadership skills, and nurturing socialemotional well-being. With more than 25 student-led clubs and organizations, 27 interscholastic teams, and international and domestic mission-service experiences, a student embraces his responsibility to be his best-self in the classroom, on the playing field, and in all facets of his life.

Founded in 1960 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers of Ireland, Brother Rice is a private, fully accredited, four-year Catholic college preparatory school for young men. Brother Rice High School fosters the spiritual, intellectual, cultural and moral development of its students. The Brother Rice community promotes excellence through an environment conducive to life-long personal growth, and responsible, moral decision making in a Christian atmosphere.
