Edmund Rice Christian Brothers North America
Compassion and liberation in the spirit of Jesus and Edmund

Caitlyn DeCastro is a 2008 graduate of Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH; and Vincent Fiedler-Ross is a graduate of Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA.

Both volunteers are living with the Christian Brothers Community in New Orleans and are participating in the AmeriCorps Education Award Program. Their ministry is to work in New Orleans with Operation Helping Hands.

It is the poor of New Orleans that most needs help. Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans has dedicated itself to respond to these needs. Operation Helping Hands (OHH) http://www.ccano.org/hurricane_recovery_projects.htm is a program that has grown up within the city to help those with limited resources put their homes back together.

The community in New Orleans consists of three Christian Brothers and up to three volunteers.

The volunteers have been taught some trade skills and sometimes just work in small groups.

At other times the volunteers act as the leaders of larger groups of short-term volunteers.
