Members of Bishop Hendricken’s SABER (Student Advocates of Blessed Edmund Rice) have worked for the past three years to advocate for Rhode Island veterans in numerous ways. From collecting and donating essential items, to hosting breakfasts and fundraisers for veterans, to writing letters to local legislators to advocate for veterans’ needs, students have worked tirelessly in this endeavor.

But this fall, students had the opportunity to take their work a step further. Students hosted and spoke with with Rhode Island Senate Majority Leader (Hendricken Class of 1981) Mike McCaffrey regarding their efforts to advocate for Rhode Island veterans.

Senator McCaffrey spoke very highly of the group and its work, and hopes that student members will have the opportunity in the future to visit a session of the Rhode Island State Senate to voice their concerns for veterans.
